Shooting Near Empire State Building

Police have confirmed that Jeffrey Johnson, 58, was responsible for this morning’s shootings outside of the Empire State Building. Johnson had been laid off by apparel company Hazan Import Corp. a year ago, and today he shot and killed former coworker Steven Ercolino, 41, another employee at Hazan Import Corp. After fleeing the scene, Johnson shot and injured nine bystanders outside of the Empire State Building before being shot and killed by police officers. (Source)

19 people wounded in Chicago shooting

Police said 19 people were injured in shootings across the South and West sides of Chicago last night. Eight victims were gunned down in a drive-by shooting. The victims are in stable condition. Five people were wounded in three other shootings about the same time. The other shootings all happened on the South and Southwest sides. (Source)

Virginia Beach mayor speculates costs of arena

Mayor Will Sessoms said today that he’s been told by representatives of the companies proposing an 18,000-seat arena with a professional sports team (which sources have identified to be NBA’s Sacramento Kings) as a tenant that the venue would cost between $275 million and $400 million. Sessoms said the city would not be able to build it without financial help from the companies, the state and the NBA. (Source)
